Vacation Pledge for Equal Marriage Rights
Support Same-Sex Marriage?
Help Make It Happen!

Sign the Vacation Pledge for Equal Marriage Rights!

Despite the recent court victory in Massachusetts, the battle for same-sex marriage has only begun. Many states have passed constitutional bans on gay marriage. Opponents of equal marriage rights even seek to amend the U.S. Constitution. It’s a critical time to support the freedom to marry for all Americans, regardless of sexual orientation. The fight for marriage rights often seems stuck in the hands of judges, lawyers, politicians, and activists. But you can make a difference!

The Vacation Pledge for Equal Marriage Rights encourages states to take the landmark step to democratically legalize same-sex marriage. Here’s how it works: by signing the pledge below, you’ll promise to take a vacation in the first state that enacts same-sex marriage through a popular or legislative vote, within three years after the legislation takes effect. Many states rely heavily on tourism revenues, and the Vacation Pledge creates a concrete incentive for a state to do the right thing. More reasons to sign the pledge. (link to a page I’ll be sending called “more reasons to sign the pledge”)

Imagine if we could tell a state legislature, “Here are half a million people who are ready, willing, and committed to visit your state--all you need do is legalize same-sex marriage!”

A vacation is a small -- and very pleasant -- price to pay for one of the most important civil rights victories in this country’s history.

When you sign the pledge, please include your address. Once a state has democratically adopted same-sex marriage, we will release the names and addresses to that state. This is the carrot we are dangling. Addresses will also help verify our numbers when we start to tell states how much they could benefit from adopting equal marriage rights. Don’t forget to add to that number by encouraging friends, relatives, and coworkers to sign!

Vacation Pledge for Equal Marriage Rights

WE, the undersigned, promise to vacation in the first state that democratically chooses (by either legislation or voter referendum) to legalize same-sex marriage, within three years of the effective date of the legislation.
